Brit Milah and Baby Naming

The birth of a Jewish baby is a moment of great celebration for both family and community. It is a time when parents and grandparents share their joy, hopes and dreams. It is an opportunity for the community to welcome a future participant and potential leader. We are proud to offer guidance and services to families during this exciting time.
 

It’s a Boy!

The Brit Milah, or Bris in Yiddish, means “covenant of circumcision” and is a Jewish religious male ceremony performed on the eighth day of a male infant’s life by a mohel.

Beit Shalom will guide you in selecting a mohel, choosing the right Hebrew name, and planning a meaningful Brit Milah ceremony.
 

It’s a Girl!

For parents blessed with a daughter, there are customs for the naming ceremony called Simchat Bat or Zeved Bat, meaning “gift — G-d gave me a good present”.

We are pleased to include baby naming ceremonies as part of our regular morning services. Traditionally, this occurs when the Torah is read on Monday, Thursday, or Shabbat. Your ceremony will take place within the first weeks following birth.
