From Ellyn Mortimer...

Two things on my mind this week:

New Rabbi Job Description is Complete...Click here to read it.

We are excited to see who will be our next leader. If you want to be involved in this process, please let us know. Once we receive resumes, there will be a vetting process and the strongest candidates will be shared with the members. We plan to have enough funds to bring the finalists to Maui to meet everyone and get all of your feedback.

High Holidays...they are quickly approaching. Sam and the Board of Directors are working on the details of the upcoming holidays to ensure that they are meaningful for everyone. We will get the schedule posted as soon as we have one. If you have any ideas or input on the holidays, please let us know at admin@mauijews.org

Everything that we work on is for the whole of the congregation. Because of that, we welcome your input, your ideas, and your participation. We want to be doing the things that will bring you to JCM, so let us know

To achieve both of these endeavors, we need your help.

We want to offer our new rabbi the best possible salary package to join our congregation, and we need donations to  help us pay for a visiting Rabbi for the High Holidays... it's up to all of us. I read on Facebook and hear from our congregants that you want a full time rabbi- now is the time to show you mean it.

Do you have a condo JCM could use to house a visiting Rabbi? We are looking for August 16-18 and September 27- October 10.

Join, Renew, Donate, Participate... it matters.

Words of Wisdom

by Sam Shnider

This week's portion is Beha'alotecha (Numbers 8:1-12:16). It is full of many ideas and topics for meditation, which seem almost disconnected in their multifaceted variety: a description of the lighting of the menorah and the eternal light; a ceremony that launches the Levites onto their careers as spiritual teachers; an account of how outcasts were given a second opportunity to join the community in the observance of passover; an account of the pillar of fire and the pillar of cloud and the orchestration of moving a camp of over a million persons with a system of bugle calls and beacons; and the order of the movement of the people by tribe, each tribe with its flag and its general.

Traveling JCM Shabbats!

"The Schechinah traveled ten journeys...from the wall to the city; and from the city to the mountain close and from the mountain to the wilderness..."

To get more people involved in Friday night services, JCOM is looking to host Shabbat services once a month in people's homes and other venues throughout the community

Get a chance to host your own Friday night service - have input on the prayers, songs, and set up. Lead sections of the prayers, and invite all those close to you, and all those who will be inspired to come.

The first "traveling shabbat" Friday night service will be held in Lahaina on July 12. We are working on coordinating a location, and have a few suggestions. Thinking of hosting? Contact admin@mauijews.org or Sam at samshnider@gmail.com.

JCM CHOIR forming now!

FIRST MEETING - Monday July 1.

Please RSVP directly to Bonnie BonnieNewman10@gmail.com if you are interested in singing for education and FUN!
