From Ellyn Mortimer...
Our Annual Member Meeting was so inspiring and energizing. One member gave us the largest donation of her life that afternoon; such an honor and such commitment from our congregation. The outgoing and the incoming board are feeling so positive about our future, and I will post a recording of the State of the Shul on our website by Friday.
The two big takeaways from the meeting...
Please renew your membership today. The membership cycle will start July 1. We will be making phone calls to all members to renew...if you want to get ahead of the calls, renew or join here.
Donate now. We need to make sure our welcoming, unaffiliated, and egalitarian shul survives for the future of Judaism on Maui.
***Do you have a condo JCM could use to house a visiting Rabbi? We are looking for August 13-18 and September 27- October 10.
Join, Renew, Donate, Participate... it matters.
Words of Wisdom
by Sam Shnider
This week’s Torah portion is Shelach (Numbers13:1 to 15:41) which recounts the story of the spies-twelve representatives, one from each tribe, who were sent to scout the land-and concludes with the mitzvah of Tzitzit, the fringes on the corners of a Talit, and the mitzvah of wearing the Talit itself.
The spies were sent to “scout” the land:
When Moses sent them to scout the land of Canaan, he said to them, “Go up there into the Negeb and on into the hill country, and see what kind of country it is.
Are the people who dwell in it strong or weak, few or many?
Is the country in which they dwell good or bad? Are the towns they live in open or fortified?
Is the soil rich or poor? Is it wooded or not? And take pains to bring back some of the fruit of the land.”

Traveling JCM Shabbat !

"The Schechinah traveled ten journeys...from the wall to the city; and from the city to the mountain close and from the mountain to the wilderness..."
To get more people involved in Friday night services, JCM is looking to host Shabbat services once a month in people's homes and other venues throughout the community.
Get a chance to host your own Friday night service - have input on the prayers, songs, and set up. Lead sections of the prayers, and invite all those close to you, and all those who will be inspired to come.
The first Friday night "traveling shabbat" service will be held in Lahaina on July 12. We are working on coordinating a location, and have a few suggestions. Thinking of hosting? Contact admin@mauijews.org or Sam at samshnider@gmail.com.
JCM CHOIR forming now!

Do you want to learn some Jewish (Hebrew/Yiddish/Contemporary) songs?
Bonnie Newman (who has led songs for the Congregation on Erev Rosh Hashahah & Chanted Kol Nidre for 32 years) is open to beginning a Choir to meet together on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at Beit Shalom.
FIRST MEETING - Monday July 1.
Please RSVP directly to Bonnie BonnieNewman10@gmail.com if you are interested in singing for education and FUN!
