I'm super excited to prepare to serve as your new "Zoom Rabbi" for the Jewish Community of Maui. This a new and creative position for this challenging time of rebuilding and helping to grow your wonderful spiritual community during physical distancing. The part-time position will be part rabbi, educator, and also consultant to the board. I'll be supporting the work of the board with developing written policies and procedures to help with communication, outreach, curriculum, and governance.
I'm excited to be offering a monthly family program and a weekly online class as the high holidays draw closer in September. I'm also looking forward to offering a "Rabbi's Tisch" program with some short teaching, music and schmoozing, and also starting an abridged weekly morning minyan with Torah chanting, healing prayers, and Mourner's Kaddish in addition to some of the traditional songs and meditations.
I've gotten to know some of you over the last 10 months and look forward to interacting with more of you over the coming weeks. These are hard moments for the world and for your community, but I truly feel that with thoughtfulness, compassion, creativity, and rededication, we'll all emerge stronger.
