Dear JCM Members and Community,
Thank you for your involvement with the Jewish Congregation of Maui. As we reflect on our achievements in 2024, I invite you to support our $50K End of Year Fundraising Drive and help us further thrive to keep our doors open in 2025.
Thanks to Bob and Marla Weiner, we have secured $16,000 towards our goal, along with an additional $10,000 matching grant. We thank you, and now turn to you, our JCM community, near and far. Your support is crucial for our survival. Please give so we can look forward to another year of our JCM services, events, community, and traditions.
Thanks to everyone named in this letter and many more, we have had a vibrant year at JCM. Passover, High Holidays, and regular Friday night Shabbat services and potlucks were joyful events bringing our community together in connection with our Jewish traditions. In addition, we began making site improvements at our beloved Beit Shalom, making use of two substantial government grants to enhance security, accessibility, and enjoyment of our site for future generations.
This year, our community has thrived thanks to the dedication of lay leaders and visiting rabbis, including Rabbi Ken Aronowitz and Rabbi Raanan Mallek for Shabbat services; Rabbi David Glickman and his son Aryeh Glickman who have given their time throughout the year and Rabbi Daniel Lev who led High Holidays this year. A heartfelt thank you to Sam Shnider, Cynthia and Michael Lebowitz, Ernesto Peraza, Barbara Singer, David Belzer, Bonnie Newman, Cantor Martin Neumann and many others for their invaluable contributions.
Our board and staff have been vital in advancing JCM, with special thanks to our Executive Director, Kalo Yujuico for her tireless efforts. Our active community extends beyond the board, with volunteers like Elinor David providing meals, and others like Ellen Levinsky, Bob and Marla Weiner, Paula Wolk, Justus Kaufman, Emily Sampey, John Elliot, and Brian Seidman deserving recognition. Generous donors, including Harry and Jodie Girsh, the families Cooper, Berman, Vojdani, Kamegai, and Weiner, have been essential in funding our Shabbat services and celebrations and keeping our doors open. Community partners like Joshua Hanson of Eskimo Candy, Lappert’s Ice Cream, Church of Latter Day Saints and local churches have also given their time and support generously.
Looking ahead to 2025 events, Save the Date for a new Saturday night monthly Havdalah social, starting at JCM’s Hanukkah party Saturday, December 28. On Sunday, January 12, we welcome artist Heather Klein to JCM to present on her one-woman musical, "Shanghai Angel”, exploring the experiences of Jews in Shanghai during the Holocaust. All at a discount or free for our members.
We here at JCM are proud of our living community, including our history and traditions, our founding members and families, and our place as the oldest Jewish organization on Maui and its only egalitarian synagogue. Please help us THRIVE so we can sustain and deepen our community by making a contribution today or anytime before December 15th by visiting:
