Meet Rabbi Raanan Mallek
I am thrilled to introduce Rabbi Raanan Mallek, a final candidate to be JCM’s next Rabbi. Rabbi Raanan lived on Oahu from ages 1-10; his grandparents were founders of Honolulu’s Congregation Sof Maarav. Rabbi Raanan is currently the Rabbi of Shorashim Village in Israel and the Masorti (Conservative) Rabbi for the Misgav Municipality. Rabbi Raanan received ordination as a Dayan (Judge) from the Integral Halakhah Institute where he focused on Mediation and Adjudication. His Rabbinical Ordination and Master of Jewish Studies is from the Schechter Seminary and Institute in Jerusalem. In addition, Rabbi Raanan has certification in facilitation and negotiation from the Conflict Resolution, Management and Negotiation Graduate Program of Bar Ilan University plus a Master of Jewish Education from Hebrew College.
In October both our Rabbi Search Committee and our Board of Directors interviewed Rabbi Raanan via Zoom. The Board unanimously voted to bring Rabbi Raanan to Maui for an in-person visit so he and our community can get to know each other better and see if we have a shidduch.
Later this month Rabbi Raanan will be offering a series of Zoom classes for JCM. I encourage you attend part or all of this series to meet and learn with Rabbi Raanan.
We’re planning a full week of community events with Rabbi Raanan in January; once we’ve finalized the schedule, details will be in the newsletter. I look forward to seeing you all in person at one or all of these events!
B’shalom, Sheri
Classes and details are listed on the calendarHERE. You will find the details and a brief bio of Rabbi Raanan on Nov. 21, Nov. 28, and Dec. 5. A separate email will be sent with more details and links for these classes as well.
Sunday, November 14 10:30am - 12:00pm In-person at JCM!
This is Part 2 of the pre-Channukah Kulanu class.
Each student created a clay menorah on October 31; it has been bisque-fired and ready to be painted with underglazes today, November 14.
In this next week, the decorated menorahs will be fired a second time, with or without a clear glaze coat.
Pick-up of finished ceramics will be at either JCM, or if more convenient, in Kula 200 during the week before first candle.
Warning to parents: We will using glaze, so old tee shirts are the appropriate dress. For any questions, call Marge Bonar 573-1960 or email marge@mauijews.org.
