Thank you to everyone who helped make Purim a success at JCM this year Monday, Mar. 6 at 6:30pm A huge thank you to Rebecca Rhapsody for directing the Purim Play, to Sam Shnider and Helen Kritzler for taking part in the Improv Reading of the Megillah, to Stephanie Vojdani and Elnaz Tavakoli for preparing the food, to Rabbi David Glickman for leading a traditional Megillah reading, to Naor Nave and his band for amazing music and to the congregation for lending hand as we continue to be short staffed.
Madrichim (Teen Guides) have begun helping the younger students learn Hebrew. It was amazing to see how well the younger students responded to the teens as they sat with and helped them learn Hebrew from our new Aleph Champs curriculum.

If you don't give today, how can we be here tomorrow?
You may not need us every day, or even every week. But when you want us, you need us to be here.
Please give a gift to JCM. We rely solely on donations/memberships to pay our bills, our salaries, and programming. Your gift now will ensure that JCM has the resources we need to be here for you and your Maui Jewish community.
P.S. We're not spending money and using resources to send out letters, this is this our ask and our reminder to you that we do not exist without you.
Last year when we read Ki Tissa, we were full of hope that the future was full of promise for JCM’s success. The Golden Calf was a theoretical lesson to be learned from. I spoke of the Japanese form of art called kintsukuroi or “to repair with gold”. It is the art of repairing pottery with gold or silver lacquer and understanding that the piece is more beautiful for having been broken. The hope was that the brokenness was behind us. Instead we were, and in many ways still are, as a congregation and certainly as a people in the midst of brokenness.
And so how do we emerge from the brokenness? The builder of the Tabernacle, Bezalel, can perhaps guide us. The Eternal spoke to Moses, saying, “See, I have singled out by name Bezalel son of Uri son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. I have endowed him with a divine spirit of skill, ability, and knowledge in every kind of craft; to make designs for work in gold, silver, and copper” (Exodus 31:1-4). Our Sages said that Bezalel’s wisdom emanated from being in the Shadow of the Eternal (which is the literal meaning of his name: Bezalel), thus named for his ability to connect the words with which the heavens and the earth were created” (Yalkut Shimoni).
Bezalel’s great ability was to know the secrets of linking one thing to another; how everything in the world - from the invisible atomic level to the level of human beings, connects in an organic way, so that the whole is much greater than the sum of its parts. Every connection is an art. Every link is a miracle, from the electron connecting to a proton and creating an atom to the interpersonal connections we seek between one another. Continued here...
