Words of Wisdom
This week is the week of Passover, which begins on Friday night, and continues for seven full days, until next weekend (yizkor will be on Saturday the 27th).
The night of the Seder has been a night observed in every generation of the Jewish people, in communities across the world, each with its own customs...

Message From the President
A few thank yous this week...
I want to thank Bob & Marla Weiner for donating the funds to upgrade our security system. We now have more motion sensors, window and door sensors, and cameras (don't worry, we're still Shomer Shabbos). We can control the alarm system remotely which will allow us to retain more control over the access to the shul. We also needed to upgrade our internet to run this new system, and that was also part of the security upgrade donation. Bob & Marla, we needed your help to make this happen, and we appreciate your care for our safety.
I also want to thank Judith for taking the office phones. We are all volunteers at the moment, so having Judith take the phone calls so I can get the office work done and the bills paid is quite a gift. When you call the shul, and Judith answers, thank her for incredible service to Beit Shalom. She is an amazing ambassador for our shul, and we are so lucky to have her.
Whatever you are doing this weekend to celebrate Pesach, I wish you and your family a wonderful holiday...if you'll be at Beit Shalom, I'll see you there. There are still seats available, join us! My family and I look forward to celebrating with our Maui community and visitors alike.
With Aloha,
Ellyn Mortimer
MOON LANDING PARTY...
What a fun night!
Toda and Mahalo Shayna Naveh
for creating, planning, and executing the marvelous Moon Landing Party! The actual lunar landing didn't go as planned, but that did not stop the celebration at Bet Shalom. With wonderful music, snacks, and lively conversation, we still had a glorious time.
Shayna had an idea to this first non-religious, community event, and it was a success... thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, and supported this wonderful evening. And thank you to Shayna.

So much of what we hear about Israel, whether on the news or from social media, is confusing and contradictory. But you can learn--from an activist, author, and educator-- how to better interpret what you're reading, and place it in appropriate context.
Dr. Michael Harris was one of the founders of San Francisco Voice for Israel, which is now the Bay Area chapter of StandWithUs, an international Israel education organization based in Los Angeles. He has spoken about Israel at synagogues, churches, political groups and senior citizen centers, as well as standing up for Israel against anti-Israel demonstrators on the streets of the Bay Area. He has appeared on radio and television news reports as a local spokesperson for StandWithUs and SF Voice for Israel. In his spare time, he is a pediatrician in Marin County California. The second edition of his book, ‘Winning a Debate with an Israel Hater’, was published in November 2018.
