WE HAVE RAISED $41,000!!! YOU ARE AMAZING...YOU ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE We asked and you responded. We are so humbled by the generosity of our community. We are well on our way to reaching the $60,000! The amount we raised will all be tabulated and reported next week. MAHALO AND TODA RABA
Book Club starting soon! Our first Book selection is... Just an Ordinary Girl by Heather Samuels
Heather is a long-time JCM member, and we are proud to kick-off our Book Club with her new novel... She will be signing books at Barnes & Noble on Saturday, October 19 @ 1pm so stop by get her book and get reading. We will let you know as soon as we have a date for our first meeting.
Air Conditioning reminder!
Yes, it's hot at the shul. Our AC system is outdated and not functioning at full efficiency due to leaks and lack of suction so the hot air gets mixed with the cool air. Our system runs on a cooling element that will be discontinued as of Jan 1, 2020, so the decision was made to not sink any more money into the system.
We use portables mixed with our central system which works ok for smaller groups in the shul, and when we have many people, our system can't keep up with the heat
When (not if) we raise the $60,000 from the above challenge, the Bonus Gift of $30,000 we receive will allow us to get a new, energy efficient system for the shul. The system won't cost us that much, so we'll have other uses for that gift as well...
AND...if you have anyone you would like to come give us a bid on our new system, please email admin@mauijews.org with their contact information, and we will give them a call.

Upcoming for Sukkot:
Information on exact dates and times for sukkah building and dropping these items off will be announced soon.
APOLOGIES: We had a miscommunication with Tashlich at the beach on Monday. We sincerely apologize for anyone who was at the beach and we were not there. Thank you for your understanding, and if you would still like to have a small ceremony before Yom Kippur, we would be happy to help you. We feel terrible about the error, and we ask for your continued trust and faith in JCM.
JCM joins the Maui community in the mourning of Robert Bluh.
May his memory always be for a blessing.
Giving to Shul (usually with a tabbed note card) is customary at the holidays. Because we do not have tickets (we welcome everyone- for free) it makes collecting your donation at our service tricky. We ask that you give as deep as you can in an amount that is meaningful to you and your family. Our little corner of egalitarian and inclusive Judaism must continue; and that is up you...and me... and all of us. Together, we can ensure that our Jewish children grow up on Maui with a Jewish community that is inclusive and welcoming of everyone. We appreciate gifts big and small, sustaining gifts to our 1800 club, and your membership.

A Message from the President
We have entered the Hebrew month of Elul, a time of deep spiritual potency as we prepare for the High Holidays. We are called upon to enter these days thoughtfully and to consider what they mean. This is time set aside in the Jewish calendar to reflect on and repair our relationship with ourselves, with each other, and with G-d.
In the spirit of Elul, I ask you to reflect on your relationship with JCM. What does JCM mean to you? JCM has an incredibly exciting future. Do you want to be part of it?
Now during Elul/September, you have an extra-special opportunity to be part of JCM’s future. Every dollar you give to JCM counts toward the matching challenge gift made possible by the generosity of an anonymous donor. Plus, a percentage of your contribution to JCM made via the Foodland Give Aloha program will be also matched by Foodland. So during the whole month of Elul, your contribution to JCM can be tripled.
There is no better time for you to reaffirm the perpetuity of Jewish life on Maui.
Shana Tovah U’Metukah - May you be blessed with a sweet and good New Year.
Sheri

Words Of Wisdom By Sam Shnider

Wow, what an awesome Shabbaton weekend! It was so beautiful to see us all come together with such joy and celebration. On Thursday evening we learned some very surprising Talmud passages related to the little-known holiday of Tu B’Av. On Friday evening we brought in Shabbat with song and dance and an amazing Shabbat dinner under the stars. Saturday we celebrated Shabbat with Rabbi Shalom’s rousing melodies, heartfelt prayer, inspiring Torah study, and more delicious food. On Saturday evening we bid Shaloha to Shabbat as Rabbi Shalom’s stories captivated the children with rapt attention, followed by more song and of course more great food.
May we all enjoy many future Shabbat celebrations together.
Kol tuv, Sheri
