This year's High Holidays will feature the vibrant Rabbi Daniel Lev, who will be leading services.
Inspired by his teachers Rabbi’s Shlomo Carlebach and Zalman Schachter- Shalomi, (zt’l), Rabbi Daniel Lev was ordained in 2005.
After 36-years of serving various communities in northern California he moved to Hawaii in 2014.
He describes his spiritual approach as heart-centered and trans-denominational, combining Traditional and Jewish Renewal practices with a big pinch of humor.
He includes songs, stories and Jewish meditation in his services.
We are thrilled that Sam Shnider will be assisting Rabbi Lev.
Below is the High Holiday schedule along with other details.
The Jewish Congregation of Maui is committed to making the High Holidays enjoyable for all. To ensure your safety and comfort, seating is limited, so we recommend making reservations. JCM members and their guests will have priority. Instead of purchasing tickets, we welcome donations to help off set costs.
Your generous contribution will support Rabbi Lev's honorarium and cover essential expenses such as security, the Break-fast, support staff and making a meaningful and positive impact on our community. We also have volunteer opportunities that would help us immensely.
We're just one day away from the High Holidays, and there are some schedule updates to note.
Shabbat Tshuva has been added, led by Sam Shnider—Mahalo, Sam!*
Also we are pleased to offer an informal second day Rosh Hashanah service in a conservative style, featuring the traditional blowing of the shofar, based on interest. Your response to this service would be greatly appreciated today at jcmmauijews@gmail.com.*
If there is enough interest, we will send out a confirmation email tomorrow. Mahalo!

We are excited about the upcoming Talmud Torah program for this year. Our program will revolve around teaching the weekly Parsha through engaging activities such as stories, crafts, games, and songs. Additionally, we will be offering Hebrew Reading using Aleph Champs and will be conducting a recognition ceremony at the end of the year. Talmud Torah will also hold a Shabbat Dinner Fundraiser in May hosted by us, the families of Talmud Torah, and invite the congregation to join!
To register, please go to https://kytah.com/register/jcmtalmudtorah to sign up. Once you've filled out the form, you'll be directed to the JCM website, where you can conveniently pay tuition online.
We will have our first meeting next Sunday, 8/25, for parents and students. We expect it to take approximately 1 hour. Students will play games and do a quick placement test, while parents and teachers will discuss procedures and expectations for the year.
Please feel free to share this information with anyone who might be interested. The more students we have, the more Jewish friends and connections our students can make. Let us know if you have any questions or ideas. We would love to hear from you!

May we honor those who lost their lives and may their memories serve as a blessing.
May we hold on to hope for a resilient and radiant future for Maui and the Jewish Community.
As a community, may we continue to support one another, especially those still on their healing journey by connecting, holding space, giving grace and aloha.
May you and yours continue to be safe and blessed. Shalom.
On behalf of the Richard Dan family, your presence is being requested tomorrow during Shabbat to say Kaddish in memory of Frank Dan and Gloria Dan on their Yahrzeits.

Mahalo Nui Loa!
During a recent trip to the Mainland, Kalo had the delightful chance to connect with two families who vacationed on Maui and attended Shabbat service at JCM a few weeks back.
Edwin and Deborah Harris originally hail from St. Louis,MO but relocated to Southern California a decade ago. Ed,a Rabbi and Psychologist runs his practice in Santa Monica, while Deborah serves as a Chaplin at Holy Cross Medical enter in Mission Hills.Together, they co- founded the Playa Vista Jewish Center. Kalo spent a lovely afternoon at their favorite lunch spot getting to know each and discussing the possibility of Ed to assist with High Holidays.
Sheldon and Emily Lodmer who founded the Malibu Jewish Center and Synagogue have been regular visitors to Maui for over 25 years Their recent trip was particularly special as three generations of the Lodmer family got to spend it together.
Kalo attended her first Shabbat on the Beach with Sheldon and Emily where she was warmly welcomed by members of the Malibu Jewish Center and Synagogue who showed empathy for the people of Maui as they experienced their own devastation during the Malibu Woolsey Fires in 2018.
Following a heartfelt joyous service, the Lodmers gave a tour of their home, which had been beautifully renovated after the fires. Their story can be found on page 49 of Malibu Times, accessible through this link: https://issuu.com/colonymagazine/docs/mtm_home23_november_3663fcd3acf6 6d.
Mahalo to the Harrises and Lodmers for their gracious hospitality towards Kalo, their donations that help sustain JCM, enabling it to serve both Jewish residents and visitors, and most importantly, for sharing the spirit of Aloha.
We look forward to their next visit to Maui and their return to JCM.

Summer Membership Drive
A message from our President
Dear JCM Members and Community,
Thank you so much for being a member, past member, or part of the general community of Jewish Congregation of Maui. I am writing to ask that you please renew your membership, or join as a new member, today. Our Summer Membership Drive ends August 18th and tickets to High Holidays are included with your membership.
At this time of year, as we renew our memberships, or perhaps join for the first time, we remember that it is you – our members and your contributions, both financial and service, on-island and off-island – that keep our doors open and our programs running, and allow us to be a light to our Maui community.
We have had a highly successful year transitioning to a lay-led community organization, with wonderful Shabbat services, Passover Seder, ongoing site improvements, and the excellent work of our Executive Director Kalo Yujuico and our engaged team of board members and volunteers. In the year ahead, we hope to share more moments, observances, and celebrations with you. Please join us for a pop-up social for members and new members Sunday, July 28 5-6pm, directly following our July board meeting. Come join us and let’s talk story.
For any questions, please contact Kalo Yujuico at the number and contacts listed below.
Mahalo, Aloha, and Shalom,

Rabbi Lev will also lead a Torah study Saturday morning at 11am. Come out for an engaging conversation on Balam while enjoying bagels, lox and fresh coffee.
Saturday evening 5:30 Michael and Cynthia will host Rabbi Lev for a Havdalah service filled with songs, stories and prayers. An oneg will precede Havdalah. Bring your favorite salad!
